The Oval: WiredScore Platinum certification for Düsseldorf

The traditional topping-out ceremony took place in 2020, and from 2021 the focus was on digitalizing the building: thanks to FORTÉ and Thing Technologies, The Oval is not only the most digital building in Düsseldorf, but is also equipped with sustainable features and its own Workplace Experience app.

The project in Düsseldorf

FORTÉ connects the technical building automation to the Thing-it platform. This can be used to control lighting, temperature and blinds. The prerequisites for locating the end devices used are also created. Together with the Thing-it app, it enables, among other things, route planning and utilization analysis of the premises. This can be evaluated in order to use space efficiently or give it a new purpose. This is always done in compliance with data protection regulations.

Booking solution

A core element of the system in Düsseldorf is also the room and parking space booking. Anyone working at The Oval can also gain access to the building or the underground parking garage via smartphone. It is also possible to set up time-limited access for guests, accompanied by customizable notifications when they arrive or enter certain rooms in the space. Another feature is the establishment of so-called “stores”, i.e. the payment of goods (for example in the cafeteria) via app.

In addition to the WiredScore Platinum certificate, the building also has LEED certification in the Gold standard. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design and recognizes properties for their sustainability. To achieve the standard, intelligent energy management was implemented in The Oval. To this end, FORTÉ and Thing-it are developing a sensor-based heating and cooling control system. Smart water meters were also installed.

The Oval is the first building in Düsseldorf to receive WiredScore Platinum certification, the highest seal of approval for outstanding digital infrastructure. Tenants are free to decide how much technology they want to use in their space. Thing-it and FORTÉ create the necessary conditions for this.
